Liverpool are reportedly the favourites to land Borussia Dortmund Jadon Sancho, ahead of perennially linked Premier League giants Manchester United.

Retired footballer turned journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Liverpool are the new favourites to land Jadon Sancho. The Borussia Dortmund attacker has been linked to a potential Premier League return often over the past year or so and it seems the current Premier League leaders have jumped ahead of Manchester United in the queue to sign Sancho.

Fjortoft further added that Sancho wants to leave Dortmund as early as January, when the winter transfer window opens. But, the German giants will play hardball as usual to let go of their most marketable prospect, especially with no release clause embedded in his Dortmund contract.

The journalist claims that Dortmund might ask up to £130 million for Sancho, considering his Dortmund deal runs till 2022. Sancho has lit up Bundesliga and international football with his exploits since leaving Manchester City for Dortmund.

His 2018-19 campaign was a pathbreaking one and an inspiration for young English stars that are looking to earn first-team game time at the highest tier of club football. His current campaign has seen him maintain his productivity to a large extent, with 5 goals and 7 assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances so far.

Such form rightly warrants the interest of European bigwigs, especially the likes of Manchester United, who are in dire need of a right midfielder. The Red Devils have lacked a proper right sided attacker for a while now and with Sancho also able to play in other areas in attack, he would fit Solskjaer’s interchangeable attacking quartet like a glove.

In fact, Sancho is widely regarded as one of United’s primary targets for the upcoming transfer window(s). Unfortunately though, as per reports, Liverpool are in the picture and have reportedly taken the lead. While Liverpool have an able attacking trio leading the charge, there is always the danger of one of them moving to another big club.

Perhaps, Liverpool are putting a contingent plan in place, in case any of their three primary attackers do end up moving elsewhere.

Either way, £130 million is an exorbitant amount to pay for a player. Both Manchester United and Liverpool would want to keep the price to a maximum of £100 million, which was the price usually reported in earlier rumours. One thing is for sure, Sancho wants to move, partly because he feels disrespected at Dortmund, as per reports.

Wherever the English sensation ends up will gain a lot, despite the price tag that is associated with him.
