Tottenham are reportedly readying a £50 million bid for former Manchester United superstar Memphis Depay.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League heavyweights are preparing a £50 million bid to secure the services of the former Manchester United forward, having had him scouted this season.

Memphis Depay has found a new lease of life since ending his forgetful stint at Manchester United by joining Lyon in January 2017. In nearly three years at the Ligue 1 club, the Dutch international has completely transformed his fortunes, becoming a key figure for both club and country.

In 130 appearances for Lyon, the former Manchester United forward has a solid return of 50 goals and 42 assists, suggesting that he has also found a creative side to his game. And, Depay’s progress over the last 34 months or so has not been overlooked, with Tottenham now eyeing a move for him.

Tottenham are in all sorts of trouble in the Premier League this season, with just three wins from their 12 games so far. A big reason for their travails is the fact that there is very little creativity beyond Christian Eriksen, who has not been a regular starter this season.

Depay is, therefore, a handy option to consider for Tottenham, with the former Manchester United superstar starting to become prolific in front of goal as well. That he can play across the frontline only furthers his cause as an attractive target.

The North Londoners have watched Depay in action on a number of occasions this season, most recently when they played Benfica twice in the Champions League. And, Spurs are readying their bid for the player. The report suggests that Tottenham are willing to table a £50 million bid to secure his services.

Depay has previously been linked with Manchester United’s bitter rivals Liverpool, although nothing came of it later. As for Tottenham, it has not been mentioned if they will make an offer for him in the January transfer window or wait till nest summer to land him.

But, with the future of Christian Eriksen being up in the air, Depay is someone who could go some way in filling the boots of the Dane, albeit not completely in the creative sense. Nevertheless, it now remains to be seen if Tottenham really do lodge a £50 million bid for the former Manchester United.
