Manchester United are reportedly interested in Argentine international Lautaro Martinez and are looking to make a move to land the Inter Milan forward.

It seems Barcelona have competition in their pursuit of Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine international is also being courted by Manchester United, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo. United are reportedly looking to bankroll a move for the Inter Milan forward in January itself.

The report entails that the in-form striker will cost Manchester United a massive €111 million if they were to move for him in January. While no fee for the summer is floated, we expect it to be around the €100 million mark, judging by the aforementioned fee.

From a bird’s eye view, Manchester United are in need of a striker as soon as possible. The Red Devils failed or chose not to replace Romelu Lukaku, who joined Inter Milan in the summer. United have struggled to score in multiples since their opening Matchday 4-0 rout of Chelsea.

But, a chunk of it could be chalked down to the injury to Anthony Martial, which saw Marcus Rashford start upfront and fail to deliver. Rashford needs more freedom to excel while Martial’s playstyle sees him adapt well to playing with his back towards the goal. With Martial returning, United seem to be getting back on the scoring horse.

Still, Mason Greenwood isn’t as experienced to lead the line and the options upfront are thin, to be precise. Lautaro Martinez fits the bill. A young and hungry forward who has started the season well, Martinez resembles the profile of players Manchester United seem to be targeting so far in hopes of building a core team.

Inter Milan have spent a lot bringing in players to fit Antonio Conte’s vision this summer and could use the opportunity to cash in on Lautaro Martinez, especially with the prospect of two cash-rich clubs in Barcelona and Manchester United likely to enter into a bidding war.

All of 22, Martinez could be the long-term solution for most top clubs. In Barcelona’s case, the Inter Milan forward could be the man to take over from Luis Suarez. For Manchester United, the Argentine could be the perfect partner-in-crime for the likes of Martial and Rashford in a new-identity Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
