PSG have reportedly rejected the latest offer from Barcelona to sign Neymar this summer, following two days of intense negotiations.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, Barcelona have received another setback in their bid to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou before the European transfer deadline. PSG have knocked back the latest player-plus-cash offer by the La Liga champions and are adamant on having their valuation met for them to sell Neymar.

It has been a saga that has dominated much of the European transfer window, with two of the biggest clubs in Europe reportedly vying for the signature of a disgruntled Neymar. Over the course of the summer, it has become abundantly clear that the Brazilian’s situation at PSG has become untenable, which has piqued the interest of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has not been a part of a single matchday squad for the Ligue 1 champions thus far this season, despite an injury crisis at Parc des Princes – Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe are the latest players to be sidelined. But, PSG still remain intent on selling Neymar, although they are yet to reach an agreement with either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

In recent days, it is Barcelona who have stepped up their pursuit of their former star, even though they have four top class forwards in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and summer arrival Antoine Griezmann. But, with both Messi and Suarez in their thirties now, Neymar’s arrival could help manage the minutes of all attacking stars better.

The latest reports claimed that Barcelona had tabled a loan offer for Neymar, an idea that has not been entertained by PSG. A player-plus-cash offer seemed to be the best way forward for the Blaugrana to land they target.

But, with Philippe Coutinho, who was reportedly the ideal candidate to help the two sides to finally take the deal forward, joining Bayern Munich, it has been back to square one for Barcelona. The latest player-plus-cash bid from Barcelona too, has been rejected by PSG, “after two days of intense negotiations”, as per RMC Sport.

But, the French outlet have not divulged the details of this offer, although they report that the Spanish champions are still nowhere near the valuation of PSG, who are adamant that their demands are met.

PSG will also accept a deal if Barcelona include Ousmane Dembele in it. But, Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko has claimed this week that the Frenchman is not leaving Barcelona this summer, with RMC Sport also adding that the Catalans are not open to the idea of letting the player depart.

As things stand, the only way forward for the deal to be concluded is if Barcelona align with the amount demanded by PSG. Otherwise, Neymar appears set to stay put at PSG, a situation that is hardly ideal for the wantaway Brazilian.
