Jurgen Klopp has put his Liverpool future in doubt by hinting that he could retire from management in 2-3 years.

In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Jurgen Klopp has put his future with Liverpool under a cloud, which could leave the Reds’ board and fans alike quite worried. The German tactician has hinted that he could call time on his football management career in a few years.

Klopp has enjoyed a scintillating time in football management, making a name for himself due to his eye catching style of play that tends to bring the best out of his team’s attack. The German manager is credited for popularising the Gegenpressing style of play, which has gone on to serve Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool well in the last 18 years or so.

His latest stint has been with Liverpool, where he will have been at the helm for four years in October. And, Klopp has etched his name in the Reds’ folklore after landing their sixth UEFA Champions League title earlier this year, thereby ending a long trophy drought at Anfield. This effort also saw him being named as one of the best managers in the Premier League.

Under Klopp’s tutelage, Liverpool have also come the closest they have ever been to winning the Premier League, losing out to Manchester City by a solitary point last season. And, the Merseyside club’s bid to end a three-decade long wait for a league title has started off brightly, with their 2-1 win over Southampton this past weekend taking them to the top of the table.

But, while everything seems to be hunky dory between Liverpool and Klopp, the Reds could now be put on alert following their manager’s latest comments. Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio at the Sport Bild Awards, where he was named the Manager of the 2018-19 Season, Klopp hinted that he could be retiring in a few years’ time.

“I hope to continue like this, but in two, three years I don’t know what may happen. Maybe I’ll retire. It doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen, but if that were the case, you wouldn’t be surprised.”

The comments from Klopp might not fill Liverpool fans in with confidence, but he did remain coy as to whether he will actually call it a day in 2-3 years’ time. If he does end up leaving Liverpool in 2022, Klopp will have continued a trend of spending seven years at his clubs, having done so at Mainz as well as Dortmund.

As far as the current season is concerned, there does not seem to be any risk of Klopp calling time on his stint with the Merseyside club, who will be hoping to finally break their Premier League duck come May 2020.
