David Luiz has labeled his ambition as the reason for being driven to seal his exit from Chelsea to join Arsenal this summer.

As quoted by The Sun, David Luiz has revealed his reasons for leaving Chelsea in favour of joining Arsenal on the British transfer deadline day. The Brazilian central defender claimed that he was motivated by the challenges he will face with the Gunners as well as his ambitions for making the infamous cross-London switch.

Leading up to the final days of the summer transfer window in England, everything appeared to be hunky dory in the relationship between David Luiz and Chelsea. The 32-year-old had even signed a two-year deal with the Blues before singing the praises of Frank Lampard.

But, as the days wound down in the British window, it appeared that the relationship between the player and the club turned sour, with Luiz missing training sessions. Further developments claimed that the Brazilian defender wanted a move to Arsenal. And, he eventually sealed his Chelsea exit, joining the Gunners on deadline day.

Since making the cross-London switch, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Luiz from fans of both clubs. More importantly, some of the talks have centred around whether the veteran centre-back can be the difference at the back for Arsenal, who lost Laurent Koscielny this summer.

The former Chelsea defender did start strongly, largely impressing in Arsenal’s win at Burnley this past weekend. And, speaking in the aftermath of the game in the mixed zone, Luiz outlined his reasons for joining the North Londoners, claiming that he was driven by ambition.

“I am a guy with ambition and that is why I moved. I could choose a comfortable zone and get money and be cool and that is it. But I like a new challenge and new things in my life. This is what gives me oxygen and gives me motivation. One day football will finish. I am trying to be honest with my heart.”

“Everyone knows I was so happy in Chelsea. This is a big club and I want to be here and see it shine. This is my motivation every day. That is why I left my family when I was 14 to try to do something around the world. I’m going to try to do my best here.”

While it is still early days, Arsenal seem to be in good shape, with their new additions starting to settle in. Luiz’s first real challenge of the season will come in the form of Liverpool, in what will be a top-of-the-table clash this weekend. For now, the Brazilian’s reasoning for leaving Chelsea does appear to be sound.
