Transfer News: Manchester United star Marcos Rojo pushing for Fenerbahce loan move

Manchester United star Marcos Rojo is reportedly trying to force through a move away to Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce before the transfer window closes.

As per a report from The Times, Marcos Rojo is trying hard to engineer a transfer away from Manchester United before the European transfer window slams shut at the end of the month. The Argentine is hoping to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a season-long loan and is pressurising the Red Devils to sanction a move.

Rojo joined Manchester United from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and has featured 113 times for the club, bagging two goals and assisting four more. However, injuries and inconsistency in form have eaten into the Argentine international’s game time over the past couple of seasons.

Rojo made just 8 appearances last season, spending more time out on the treatment tables than on the field. Heading into the new season, the 29-year-old finds himself behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling in the pecking order, while academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe and the injured Eric Bailly are also options at the manager’s disposal.

Hence, Manchester United are believed to be keen on cutting down on the numbers in the centre-back department, with Rojo emerging as the most likely candidate to be shown the door. The Argentine international was part of Manchester United’s pre-season this summer, but wasn’t included in the matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Chelsea.

Rojo had attracted interest from Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Everton. The Toffees were reported to have come up with an offer to sign the defender on the English transfer deadline day, which was knocked by the Red Devils, who wanted £25 million for the Argentine’s services.

The report states that Rojo has been left angered by Manchester United’s decision to not sanction a transfer to Everton. The defender is keen on securing a transfer away to a major European club where he will get regular playing time and Fenerbahce’s offer of a season-long loan is something that he wants Manchester United to accept.

However, Manchester United are hoping to offload him on a permanent deal and want to extract the £25 million fee for the 29-year-old. The report from The Times further claims that should United once again block a loan deal, Rojo is ready to ‘go to war’ to secure a move.

Rojo still has two years left on his £8 million-a-year contract with Manchester United, that he had signed in March last year. However, it seems unlikely that he will stay at Old Trafford beyond this month, with the club actively looking to offload him. United legend Gary Pallister also tipped the Argentine to be sold, but it remains to be seen if he gets his desired loan move to Fenerbahce.
