Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister has claimed that Argentine star Marcos Rojo will be sold by the club before the European transfer deadline.

In an interview with American Gambler, as carried by the Daily Express, Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has insisted that the club will get rid of Argentine international Marcos Rojo before the transfer window closes in Europe.

The 29-year-old Rojo arrived at Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2014 and has gone on to make 113 appearances for the club, scoring twice and assisting four more goals. However, the defender has struggled for game time over the past couple of seasons, with injuries and inconsistency in form hampering his form.

Rojo featured just eight times throughout the 2018-19 campaign, spending more time out on the treatment tables than on the field. He finds himself behind summer signing Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling in the pecking order, while academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly are also options at the manager’s disposal.

Hence, Manchester United are believed to be keen on cutting down on the numbers in the centre-back department, with Rojo emerging as the most likely candidate to be shown the doors. The Argentine international was part of Manchester United’s pre-season this summer, but wasn’t included in the matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Chelsea.

Rojo had attracted some degree of interest from Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Everton. The Toffees were reported to have come up with an offer on the English transfer deadline day, which was knocked by the Red Devils. However, former United superstar Gary Pallister believes that the club will offload him before the end of the month.

Speaking to American Gambler, the Englishman, who was a Manchester United player between 1989 and 1998, said: “Rojo nearly left for Everton so obviously he looks as though he will be the one that would be let go, as United are willing to sell him on.”

Rojo is contracted with Manchester United till the summer of 2021, having signed a new deal in March last year. However, his time at Old Trafford seems to be nearing an end. There have been reports of interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and France where the transfer window is still open. It remains to be seen where Rojo ends up come next month.
