Inter Milan have completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku, who joins from Manchester United after months of transfer speculation.

One of the long-lasting transfer sagas of this ongoing transfer window has finally come to an end as Inter Milan confirm the arrival of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian international has joined the Italian outfit, signing a five-year contract at the club.

Lukaku sounded upbeat and gave weight to comments he made earlier this summer about Antonio Conte. “Inter were the only club I wanted because Inter is Not For Everyone. I’m here to bring the Nerazzurri back to the top.”, said the Belgian after signing the contract.

However, his transfer to San Siro will come as a huge disappointment for Juventus. The Italian champions have been linked with a move for the ex-Everton through this summer. They had even agreed personal terms with the forward earlier this month. But, it looks like Inter have finally managed to hijack the deal.

The arrival of Lukaku will solve Inter Milan’s problems in the offensive department, with Inter Milan likely to leave the club. The Argentine was relieved of his role as club captain earlier this year, and the Italian giants are unwilling to continue the relationship with the player after tons of off-field issues.

That left Conte with Lautaro Martinez as his only striking option. But, with Lukaku now joining the club, he will have the services of two extremely talented forwards as the Italian mastermind look to guide Inter back among the European giants in the upcoming season.

As for Manchester United, they won’t be fazed by the departure of Lukaku. In fact, the Belgian’s sale made sense in many ways given how he struggled during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring only 12 goals. His lack of mobility made it clear that he isn’t the best fit for Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactical philosophy that generally revolves around athleticism.

At the same time, the fans will be upset as the club hasn’t yet made any moves to secure a replacement for Lukaku. Mario Mandzukic was tipped as a potential target. But, United pulled the plug on a move for the Croatian after they failed to come to an agreement over his switch to Old Trafford.

And even though the Red Devils could still technically sign players, it’s unlikely they will manage to secure the services of a viable replacement for Lukaku. That means they will have to rely on the Marcus Rashford, who is now the club’s only option in the number nine role. Hence, it will be interesting to see how this new season pans out for the Premier League giants.
