Arsenal have completed the signing of 22-year-old left-back Kieran Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic in a £25 million deal.

The summer transfer window keeps getting better and better for Arsenal. Having completed the major transfer of Nicolas Pepe last week, the Gunners have now announced on their official website that they have signed Scottish full-back Kieran Tierney from Celtic on a long-term deal.

Tierney, 22, has been on Arsenal’s radar for months now, as manager Unai Emery sought to strengthen the left-back area in his squad. However, the North London outfit hadn’t been able to reach an agreement with Celtic over a transfer fees.

However, a breakthrough was made earlier on Thursday, the English transfer deadline day, as Arsenal decided to meet the Hoops’ £25 million valuation of the full-back, which happens to be a Scottish record transfer fee. And after completing his medical successfully and agreeing personal terms with the club, the 22-year-old has now signed for Arsenal.

Tierney arrives at the club with loads of experience under his belt, despite his young age. The left-back came through the academy at Celtic and has gone on to make 170 appearances already, scoring 8 goals and setting up 37 more. He had been an integral part of the team that completed a historic hat-trick of domestic trebles between 2016-17 and 2018-19.

Upon completion of the deal, Arsenal manager Emery said, “We’re delighted Kieran is joining us. He’s a very talented player who will continue to improve. He increases our options defensively and I look forward to him joining our group.”

Tierney’s arrival is unlikely to be the last piece of business at Arsenal on the transfer deadline day. The Gunners are expected to sign Brazilian centre-half David Luiz from rivals Chelsea in a £8 million deal, while there could be some exits on the cards as well, with reports claiming that Alex Iwobi is closing in on a transfer to Everton.

Tierney’s signing should prove to be a great piece of business for Arsenal. The 22-year-old, who will don the No.3 jersey at the Emirates, is regarded as one of the best young full-backs in Europe and should push Sead Kolasinac for a regular starting berth. It remains to be seen if he will be involved in the Gunners’ opening fixture of the season against Newcastle United.
