Manchester United’s move for Christian Eriksen has been called off as they believe he is more keen on joining Real Madrid this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are ready to drop their pursuit of Christian Eriksen due to the player’s lack of commitment towards the club. It is believed that the Tottenham Hotspur has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.

This has become a rather paradoxical situation as Manchester United reportedly had agreed terms with the Danish playmaker. As a result, Tottenham looked keen on securing the services of either Philippe Coutinho or Paulo Dybala. As for Real Madrid, coach Zinedine Zidane still favours a move for Paul Pogba ahead of Eriksen while Donny van de Beek is also an option.

And with the three clubs tangled with each other with all these transfer sagas, it won’t be surprising to see Eriksen remaining at Spurs as the transfer window in England slams shut tomorrow afternoon. The report claims that the Dane has kept the door open in regards to a potential contract extension in case he stays at North London this summer.

This could be a massive blow for Manchester United, who are struggling to find someone who can boost their creative department in this new season. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Bruno Fernandes. But, Eriksen’s vast experience in English football would have made him a miles better alternative when compared to the Portuguese international.

Furthermore, they have also failed to resolve the fate of Pogba. The Frenchman has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid. But, it seems Los Merengues are struggling to meet the club’s extremely high valuation for the midfielder. They did, however, offer a James Rodriguez plus cash deal in an attempt to sign the World Cup winner. But that proposal was rejected by United.

The addition of Eriksen, therefore, would have helped the Premier League giants make a final decision on Pogba’s future. And speaking of Real Madrid, it would perhaps be wiser for them to shift their attention towards Eriksen as he is much more suited to Zidane’s 4-3-3 setup.

The Dane can feature in one of the three midfield slots alongside Casemiro and Toni Kroos. His ability to provide the creative essence in the final third would have allowed him to play a free-flowing role in the final third. Besides, the 27-year old’s versatility is commendable as he can also operate as a central midfielder as well as a wide-attacker.

Therefore, Eriksen is definitely a viable target for the Spanish giants. As for Manchester United, they need to focus on strengthening their offensive department, especially with Romelu Lukaku’s future still yet to be resolved. They have been linked with a shock move for former Spurs striker Fernando Llorente earlier this morning.
