Liverpool were reportedly pursuing the signature of free agent and former Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery before ultimately pulling out.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Bayern Munich veteran Franck Ribery could have been heading to Anfield in what could  be the most outrageous transfer of the summer thus far. Liverpool were interested in bringing the veteran in but decided against pursuing the French winger.

The 36 year old is available on a free transfer, after his contract with Bayern Munich ended last season. Although Ribery is no longer the frightening winger he once was, his experience is something that could lure Klopp into signing him. Ribery scored 124 goals for Bayern  in his 425 appearances for the German side whilst winning an astounding 9 Bundesliga titles.

With such accolades against his name Franck Ribery firmly believes  he has atleast one more season of top flight football left in him.

A rejuvenated Liverpool side, fresh from their recent Champions league victory boast of one of the best attacking trio’s in Europe. With the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed salah and Firmino, Liverpool have shown what they are capable of; not to forget teenage sensation Rhian Brewster who Klopp rates very highly.

Liverpool have also gone on to snap up Harvey Elliott from Fulham. It seems rather difficult to see Ribery break into this mix.

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt

This is the first concrete transfer Ribery has been linked to this summer. Not surprising at all considering the fact that Klopp has been in awe of Ribery since the Liverpool manager’s time at Dortmund when prime Franck Ribery would terrify defenses with his blistering skills.

Liverpool have done very little this summer and it does not seem like they are going to do much, with manager Jurgen Klopp stating his belief in his side and believing in keeping the closely knit group together. Liverpool spent heavily last summer when they signed goalkeeper Allison Becker for an outrageous €62.5 million and also other top players in the name of Xherdan Shaqiri and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

Players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana missed most parts of last season due to injury and will be back soon for Liverpool, thus there is no such shortage in terms of firepower for the European Champions. However Ribery to Liverpool could be one heck of a story but then again the Liverpool could face issues in terms of the player’s wages.

All we know for now is Ribery is a free agent with no real offers but, this has been a bizarre summer so no one can really tell what happens until deadline day actually arrives.
