Real Madrid have reportedly made a late attempt to beat Barcelona to the signing of Neymar, offering PSG €90 million plus Gareth Bale to land the Brazilian.

According to a report from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are hoping to beat bitter rivals Barcelona to the signing of Brazilian superstar Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain. To that end, the Merengues have made an offer of  €90 million plus wantaway star Gareth Bale in a player plus cash deal to the French champions.

Both Neymar and Bale are unlikely to stay at PSG and Real Madrid respectively beyond the summer transfer window, with both the clubs willing to offload their star players. And Real are hoping to make the best of the situation by using Bale as a makeweight in a deal to bring Neymar to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Neymar has been eternally linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the Brazilian chose to join Barcelona from Santos where he went on to have a stellar spell, before completing a world-record transfer to PSG in the summer of 2017. However, things have failed to work out as per plans for both parties.

Neymar’s spell with PSG has been blighted by injuries and disciplinary issues. The French champions have grown frustrated with his antics and are willing to cash in on him in the ongoing window, with Barcelona expressing serious interest in re-signing him.

However, Real Madrid are hoping to beat their arch-rivals to the signing of the Brazilian superstar. To that end, Real Madrid have approached PSG through agent Pini Zahavi with an offer of €90 million plus Welsh wing wizard Gareth Bale in a cash plus player swap deal.

Bale has enjoyed immense success during his time with Real Madrid. Having signed from Tottenham in 2013, the 30-year-old has netted 102 goals in 231 matches, winning four UEFA Champions League trophies and a La Liga title. However, the Welshman has had problems with injuries and is seen as surplus to requirements by manager Zinedine Zidane.

The French tactician, who returned to the Madrid hotseat in March, confirmed as much earlier this month claiming that the club were actively looking to offload him. Bale is reported to have received a staggering £1 million-per-week offer from a club in the Chinese Super League, but Real Madrid, as per the aforementioned report, are hoping to use him in the deal to sign Neymar.

Neymar has been named in PSG’s squad for their pre-season tour to China, while Bale is also part of Real Madrid’s pre-season tour of USA. The Welshman happened to score in the Merengues’ International Champions Cup clash against Arsenal, which ended in a 2-2 draw, with Madrid beating the Gunners on penalties.

While both Bale and Neymar are part of the pre-season tours, neither are expected to stay at their respective clubs beyond the summer. But, it remains to be seen if a swap deal between PSG and Real Madrid involving the two sees the light of the day.
