Barcelona are reportedly closing in on another exciting young Brazilian prospect, with Santos set to lose their rising star Tailson for mere compensation.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona are close to signing another young and highly-rated Brazilian playmaker, this time from Brazilian giants Santos. Tailson is yet to agree a contract extension with Santos and with his deal set to expire, Barcelona are likely to have to pay just development rights to land the playmaker.

Santos were keen to extend Tailson’s deal and found him to be a key cog in their plans for the future. But, it is their reported intent to insert a release clause in the deal that could have scuppered their chances of convincing the 20-year-old. According to the report, all is done now, with the negotiations in an advanced stage and Sport stating that the only thing remaining before the deal is done are the signatures.

Tailson Pinto Goncalves, better known as Tailson, first drew attention from clubs in Europe thanks to his performances in the Copinha tournament, an event that showcases the best of young Brazilian talents. His prolific nature impressed a lot of European clubs, with the youngster finishing the event as one of the leading scorers. Barcelona though, seem to have stolen a march on other unnamed suitors.

Reports from various outlets claim Tailson is set to sign a three-year contract with Barcelona and will likely join the club’s B squad for the upcoming campaign. Barcelona will be due to pay Santos a compensation package of around €350,000 for the 20-year-old.

Tailson will be a welcome addition for Barcelona B, who have recently bolstered their ranks with Japanese international Hiroki Abe as well. While the Brazilian is described best as a playmaker, he can also play in various areas of attack, making him an ideal modern-day forward.

Barcelona B do not currently have an attacking midfielder within their ranks that can interchange positions with the forward line during the ninety minutes. Tailson will join fellow countryman and Sao Paulo youngster Gabriel Novaes, who is on loan at Barcelona till the end of the 2019-20 season.
