European giants Inter Milan are reportedly set to offer £60 million for wantaway Manchester United superstar Romelu Lukaku.

According to a report by ESPN, Inter Milan are primed to make a fresh offer to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window. The Italian giants are expected to table a £60 million bid for the wantaway Belgian striker, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain.

It has been a mixed bag of a stint for Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United since making a big-money move from Everton in the summer of 2017. Over the last two years, the Belgian striker has been the top scorer for the Premier League heavyweights, but has not managed to maintain consistency in doing so.

To make matters worse on a personal level, the 26-year-old ended up losing his spot as the first-choice striker to Marcus Rashford and had to play second fiddle to the Manchester United academy graduate for the second half of the 2018-19 season. As a result, the last few months have seen his future at Old Trafford being thrown under a cloud.

All summer long, Lukaku has been linked with a move away from Manchester United, with several clubs reported to be interested in him. But, it has been Inter Milan who have been tailing him with serious intent thus far, particularly since the appointment of Antonio Conte.

The Italian manager had been keen on signing Lukaku while he was the Chelsea manager before he eventually made his way to Manchester United. But, with the Belgian international facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Conte seems to be sensing the opportunity to finally secure his services, albeit at Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri ought to sign a top class striker to replace Mauro Icardi, who is reportedly set to depart from San Siro this summer. The former Inter Milan captain has missed the Italian giants’ pre-season tour to Asia, and is believed to already have one foot out the exit door. To that end, a move for the 26-year-old makes sense.

Inter have reportedly already made one offer for Lukaku, only to see their £9 million bid for a two-year loan move be swiftly rejected by Manchester United. The Serie A heavyweights though, are set to launch another move for their top target.

The report suggests that Inter are ready to table a £60 million bid for Lukaku, with additional bonuses also on offer. But, with Manchester United having placed a price tag worth £80 million on their star striker, it is unclear as to whether Inter’s offer will be sufficient to convince their fellow European giants.

Meanwhile, there have also been suggestions that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep hold of the 26-year-old, despite Manchester United’s stance of being open to offloading him. However, with Lukaku being coy over his future, when quizzed on the topic recently, a move might be on the cards.

But, it remains to be seen if the reported £60 million offer is enough to convince Manchester United to part ways with Lukaku, or whether they ask for a higher amount. For now, a fresh bid can be expected out of Inter Milan.
