Nemanja Matic is seemingly eager to sort out his future at Manchester United after learning of Inter Milan’s interest.

According to ESPN, Manchester United star, Nemanja Matic is keen to hold talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in regards to his future at the club. It is believed that the midfielder is aware of Inter Milan’s interest. As a result, he wants to resolve his future at Old Trafford by having showdown talks with the manager.

The report claims that Inter have offered United the opportunity to sign Radja Nainggolan plus bag £10 million in exchange for Matic’s services this summer. And this could make a world of sense for the Red Devils, who have struggled with their midfield department in recent years.

Matic, in particular, has appeared terribly inconsistent along with last summer’s star recruit, Fred. The two have struggled to provide the solidity in the midfield, which forced Manchester United to rely on Scott McTominay, at times. Besides, star midfielder Paul Pogba is being linked with Real Madrid this summer while Ander Herrera has joined PSG after leaving the club for free.

Hence, United have a shallow midfield department at the moment. And thus getting rid of Matic in favour of someone like Nainggolan could make them clear winners in this deal. The Belgian can offer the urgency as well as the tenacity and energy midfield that is something United have lacked from their current crop of holding midfielders.

Additionally, the ex-AS Roma star has a vast amount of experience in top-flight football and his leadership qualities in the middle of the park could be extremely useful for a relatively young Manchester United setup. The additional £10 million they will receive will also help them fund moves for their other targets in the market this summer.

Speaking of which, Manchester United are reportedly plotting a move for Sean Longstaff, who could arguably be a better option given his age and potential. As for Inter, it is somewhat shocking that they are pursuing someone like Matic.

The Serbian international evidently struggled to perform at Old Trafford last season, and his quality on the ball has been often called into question. However, his combative qualities in midfield could perhaps tune in well with Antonio Conte’s heavy metal football.

His robust style of play could also complement the much more technically astute figure of Marcelo Brozovic, thus adding another dimension to the Inter Milan midfield. But, a lot will depend on how Conte plans to utilise the 30-year-old’s qualities in the middle third of the pitch as Matic as well as the results of his talks with Manchester United.
