Aaron Wan-Bissaka is reportedly set to undergo a medical at Manchester United next week ahead of sealing a £55 million move to Old Trafford.

According to a report by Football Insider, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has inched a step closer to joining Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window. The English defender has been pencilled in for a medical next week, with Crystal Palace agreeing a £55 million deal for him with United.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has skyrocketed to fame following his first full season in the Crystal Palace first-team setup. So impressive was he over the course of the 2018-19 season that he was named the Eagles’ Player of the Year, having missed just one Premier League game when available and impressing in the right-back role all through the campaign.

A winger in his days in the Crystal Palace youth setup, Wan-Bissaka was converted into a full-back by Frank De Boer before he honed his skills further under Roy Hodgson. And, after 15 months of excellent performances, the 21-year-old has caught the eye of record Premier League champions Manchester United.

The fallen giants of English football are at their lowest ebb since the beginning of the Premier League era as after a disastrous 2018-19 season several positions appear to be in dire need of reinforcements. The right-back slot is one such position that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to address.

Antonio Valencia called time on his ten-year stint with the Red Devils and has left the club as a free agent, while Matteo Darmian is also reported to be headed for an exit from Old Trafford. That leaves the Manchester United boss with just Diogo Dalot as a recognised right-back at his disposal.

For now though, Ashley Young is the first-choice right-back at Manchester United. But, the veteran Englishman, at 33, does not have many years in front of him and has already started to appear to be a liability on both ends of the pitch. With Dalot still having a lot of room for improvement, signing a player like Wan-Bissaka makes sense, so as to create a long-term solution on the right flank.

To that end, Manchester United have been in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for the 21-year-old, with the transfer fee being a sticking point for a long time. But, recent reports have indicated that the two sides have reached an agreement over a £55 million fee.

Football Insider shine further light on this agreed sum, claiming that £40 million will be paid upfront, with the remaining £15 million being performance related add-ons. With United also agreeing personal terms with Wan-Bissaka all that appears to remain is the medical. And, there is an update on that front.

The report suggests that Manchester United have brought the player’s medical forward following England’s shock ouster from the UEFA Under-21 European Championships. And so, Wan-Bissaka is set to undergo his Manchester United medical next week, meaning a move might be due completion soon.

The move to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka appears to be taking shape for Manchester United, who look set to land the right-back in a £55 million deal. It now remains to be seen if United can seal the deal quickly following next week’s medical – as has been reported – to make the 21-year-old their second summer signing.
