Manchester United are reportedly the favourites to land 24-year-old French midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is also attracting interest from Real Betis.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Adrien Rabiot in the summer transfer window. The PSG contract rebel is also the subject of interest from Real Betis, who are weighing up an audacious move for the French midfielder.
One thing surrounding Adrien Rabiot’s future has been certain for a while now – that he will no longer be a PSG player next season. The Frenchman, who was already among controversy for his reluctance to be a part of the reserves list for the French national squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup, chose not to renew terms with Les Parisiens.
This stance led to the club shunning him out of the first-team picture, with Rabiot missing more than half of the season. With one of the most talented midfielders of his generation ripe for the taking on a free transfer, it is hardly surprising that he has been linked with a number of clubs. But, it is Manchester United who have come to the forefront lately.
The Premier League heavyweights are coming off their worst ever Premier League season and have already been set back by Ander Herrera’s decision to run his contract down. With the Spanish midfielder departing from Old Trafford, Manchester United are in need of a top class replacement.
Rabiot is thus, a viable target for Manchester United to pursue, with the 23-year-old midfielder capable of reprising several roles in the middle of the park, defensively and offensively. But, the Red Devils also have Real Betis for company in the race to sign Rabiot.
Mundo Deportivo have quoted a report by Diario de Sevilla, who have suggested that Real Betis are undertaking an ambitious project to secure the services of the Frenchman. The Seville-based publication has claimed that Los Verdiblancos have already sent out feelers to the player’s representatives and could make a move for him as well.
The interest from Betis does make sense considering the uncertain future of midfield superstar Giovani Lo Celso, who has coincidentally also been linked with Manchester United recently. But, the fact that they cannot offer European football will complicate their pursuit of the 23-year-old.
Manchester United would fancy their chances of signing Adrien Rabiot in the summer transfer window, with Real Betis the only other club providing a real threat to their pursuit of the French midfielder. It now remains to be seen if the Red Devils can move quickly to seal the deal for the 23-year-old.
