Manchester United are reportedly poised to make a summer move for Real Betis star Junior Firpo, who is also on the radar of Real Madrid.

If the report from Spanish publication AS is to be believed, Manchester United are in the running to sign Junior Firpo. The Red Devils are in talks with Real Betis over the prospect of sealing a summer deal for the left-back, who is also drawing interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The report adds that Manchester United are looking to get the deal done between €25 million to €30 million, which would be a huge transfer coup for the Premier League giants, despite Junior Firpo’s recent struggles in the fitness department.

Junior Firpo joined Real Betis in the summer of 2014 and as a youth prospect and has gone on to quietly build a reputation for himself in La Liga this season. In the 24 league appearances that he managed in the 2018-19 campaign, Junior Firpo returned a tally of 3 goals and 4 assists, which is not as impressive, considering most of it came from the left midfield position.

Still, his performances have been enough for clubs to take note of his talent. Earlier, the 22-year-old was linked with Real Madrid and Manchester City. While Los Blancos have maintained their interest in the Spanish Under-21 international, the blue half of Manchester seems to have been replaced in the race by the red half.

Manchester United have Luke Shaw at left-back and the Englishman has impressed during the 2018-19 season. But, there are no options in the said position apart from the former Southampton star, which is something that will be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s mind. Even towards the end of the campaign, Shaw looked tired and ultimately it showed on the field in a costly mistake against Huddersfield.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, might be able to convince Marcelo to stay after the appointment of Zinedine Zidane. But, the manager is reportedly looking to freshen up the squad and could take up the option of offloading the Brazilian, who lost his place in the side for a long while to youngster Sergio Reguilon, who has emerged as a credible option for the left flank for Zidane.

Firpo has La Liga experience under his belt and will unlikely take a long time to adjust to life and football in the Spanish capital. Manchester United though, will be hoping to get things wrapped quickly, with the report indicating that the club is in advanced talks with Real Betis for Firpo.

Real Madrid’s ability to offer Champions League football could also hand them an advantage over Manchester United.

But, so far, Real Madrid have only been credited with interest so far and it will be interesting to see if they do come in and challenge Manchester United for the 22-year-old left-back. For now, United seems to be having a clear run in on Firpo, who could prove to be a brilliant coup, if the deal stays in the price range mentioned above.
