Manchester United are reportedly set to revive their interest in English international Harry Maguire as part of their summer spending spree.

According to a report by ESPN, Manchester United are set to rekindle their chase for Leicester City’s star defender Harry Maguire as part of a £200 million spending spree in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils had also been interested in signing the English international last summer before being priced out of a move.

Harry Maguire has enjoyed quite a stunning rise to fame following his maiden Premier League campaign with Hull City in the 2016-17 season. While the Tigers were relegated that season, Maguire made enough of an impression to remain in the Premier League, with Leicester City snapping him up.

At the King Power Stadium, the defender has continue his upward trajectory, having been named as the Foxes’ Player of the Year last term before becoming a regular English international. Following a colossal campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, interest in the 26-year-old skyrocketed, with Manchester United linked with him till deadline day last summer.

A move failed to materialise though, and the player remained at Leicester, where he has once again been a key player this season. Unsurprisingly, interest in him has resurfaced, with Manchester United once again tailing him, and for good reason.

Jose Mourinho had been adamant that defence needed major improvements if the Red Devils were to be competitive this season. Ultimately, his wish was not granted and Mourinho eventually ended up departing from Old Trafford, but not before being vindicated by the horrible defensive performances by Manchester United.

To this day, defence – especially central defence – remains a concern for Premier League’s fallen giants, with Victor Lindelof the only player who has performed consistently this season. Maguire thus, seems to be a viable target for Manchester United, who are reportedly hopeful of snapping him up this time around.

While an £80 million price tag warded them off last summer, United still believe they can swoop the English international away from the King Power Stadium, despite him signing a new deal that runs till the summer of 2023, earlier this season.

A move for Maguire though, depends on Manchester United being able to offload at least one centre-back this summer. And, the likeliest candidates to get the axe are Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo, with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling signing new deals with the club recently, while Lindelof is one of their key players.

For now, it looks like Manchester United will launch the offensive for Harry Maguire once again this summer. It now remains to be seen if the English international finally makes his way to Old Trafford, as part of what could be a £200 million summer spending spree.
