Donny van de Beek, who is a summer target for Real Madrid, is reportedly on the radar of Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino eyes a replacement for Christian Eriksen.

As per a report by Daily Mirror, the list of Donny van de Beek’s admirers keeps on growing. The Ajax midfielder, who is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, is being tailed by Tottenham Hotspur, where Mauricio Pochettino is considering him to be a viable replacement for Christian Eriksen in the summer transfer window.

Donny van de Beek is part of the Ajax revolution that has taken European football by storm this season. Part of the club since 2008, the player rapidly progressed through the ranks before breaking into the first-team setup towards the end of 2015. But, it is the current season that has put the 22-year-old on the map.

The Dutch midfielder has made 54 appearances across all competitions this season, with 16 goals and 12 assists to show for his efforts. The latest such contribution came against Tottenham, who, in addition to Real Madrid, are now showing an interest in snapping van de Beek up.

Tottenham are in a precarious position with regard to the future of creative supremo Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker has been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, meaning there could be a gaping hold in Spurs’ midfield. In order to fill the potential void, Mauricio Pochettino is turning towards Eriksen’s former club, Ajax.

Pochettino was left impressed by van de Beek’s performance against his side in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg last week and is thus, set to target the player this summer. Tottenham though, will have Real Madrid for company in pursuit of the 22-year-old.

While Eriksen remains a key target for Los Blancos, Zinedine Zidane is keeping his options open, with Paul Pogba also on his wishlist. With Luka Modric a colossal figure to succeed, it is imperative that Real Madrid get his long-term replacement right, making van de Beek an interesting player to pursue.

The report suggests that Ajax would be willing to do business for a price around the £45 million mark. While Tottenham have been operating on a limited budget due to the construction of their stadium, they might be able to afford the transfer fee, if Eriksen ends up making his way to Real Madrid.

An interesting race to sign Donny van de Beek seems to be setting up ahead of the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if Tottenham manage to sign the talented midfielder, or if Real Madrid beat Spurs to his signature.
