Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a £30 million summer move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, who is currently on loan at Everton.

As per a report from The Telegraph, as carried by Daily Star, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to beat Everton to the signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, by launching a £30 million bid for the Portuguese.

Gomes burst onto the scenes during his time at Valencia, prompting Barcelona to invest heavily on him in the summer of 2016. However, the midfielder, who won the UEFA Euro 2016 with Portugal, failed to make much of an impression at Camp Nou in his first two seasons, leading to him getting loaned out to Everton in the last summer.

Since joining the Toffees, the 25-year-old has done quite well, impressing in his debut campaign in the Premier League. Gomes has featured on 28 occasions in all competitions for Everton, contributing with a solitary goal and a couple of assists, on his way to establishing himself as a regular under manager Marco Silva.

Everton have been impressed by the Portuguese international’s application in his first-ever season in England and want to sign him on a permanent deal from Barcelona ahead of the next season. However, they are now set to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Gomes in the past as well, with manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly a huge admirer of the Portuguese’s talents. And, having seen him do well in the Premier League this season, the Spurs boss is set to press ahead with his interest in him, by launching a £30 million summer move.

Tottenham did not make a single signing in the last two windows. The North Londoners lost Mousa Dembele in January and are concerned over the future of star man Christian Eriksen, who has been heavily linked with Real Madrid. Given the situation, they could definitely use some additions to their midfield, and a player of Gomes’ profile could be the ideal fit for Spurs.

Gomes has a contract till 2021 from Barcelona, but with Frenkie de Jong’s impending arrival in the summer, coupled with the plethora of options already at manager Ernesto Valverde’s disposal, the Portuguese is unlikely to have a future with the La Liga champions.

Both Everton and Tottenham are very good options for the 29-time capped Portuguese international, but the possibility of playing European football could sway his decision in favour of the North London outfit, who will also be getting a quality player with his best years ahead of him. However, it remains to be seen where Gomes ends up next season.
