Arsenal are reportedly interested in former Aston Villa star Jordan Veretout and are scouring the prospect of a summer move for the Fiorentina playmaker.
According to a report from Birmingham Mail, Jordan Veretout could be in line for a return to England and the Premier League. The Fiorentina playmaker had a brief spell in England with Aston Villa and is being eyed by Arsenal for a move in the summer transfer window.
Jordan Veretout did not have the best of times the first time around in England as he, along with Aston Villa, struggled get a foothold in the Premier League and were relegated to the Championship. Veretout though, never played the second tier of English football. The French midfielder joined Saint-Etienne on a season-long loan before being signed by Fiorentina in the summer of 2017.
Veretout has performed admirably at Fiorentina, with a record of 5 goals and 3 assists in the league this season so far from the central midfield. Apart from the numbers, his industry has caught the eye of onlookers, with Arsenal, Inter Milan and Napoli now interested in the 26-year-old.
Arsenal are looking to reinforce their squad in the summer while taking care of the budget restraints imposed by the board. Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira have all performed well for Arsenal this season. But, there needs to be a replacement for Aaron Ramsey in the squad.
Many names have come up as potential replacements for Ramsey. But, Veretout could be the perfect man. The 26-year-old is starting to hit his peak form and has been tipped to be on the verge of a call-up to the French National Team. Veretout has the ability to play up ahead in the number 10 spot and could be another shrewd piece of business by Arsenal.
Inter Milan and Napoli, on the other hand, will represent the prospect of continuing to play in Serie A while also having the opportunity of plying his trade in the Champions League or the Europa League, depending on where Inter Milan finish on the table.
No value has been mentioned for Veretout, but it is expected that, should the aforementioned clubs come in for the 26-year-old in the summer, it will be tough for Fiorentina to retain the services of their playmaker.
