Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski regarding a big-money move in the summer.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are engineering a move for the Bayern Munich star despite being hit with a transfer ban for the next two windows. It is believed that the Blues have already contacted the player’s representatives and their goal is to secure a summer deal for the Polish international as they look to bulk up their attacking options this summer.

Chelsea are hoping for the Court of Arbitration for Sport to accept their appeal of denying the transfer ban, which was authorized by the footballing committee earlier this year. This could allow them to pursue their summer transfer targets, including Lewandowski.

The Bayern Munich forward is regarded as one of the world’s most accomplished strikers, having had immense success not only in the Bundesliga but also in European as well as international football.

Lewandowski has been performing at the top of his game for many years now and this season has been no exception, despite Bayern’s lack of consistency as a team. In fact, the 30-year-old has already plundered 35 goals in just 39 matches in all competitions, which has helped the Bavarians make an astonishing comeback during the second half of the campaign.

Therefore, Lewandowski is certainly a viable target for Chelsea, who will be keen to refresh their attacking unit in the summer.

While Alvaro Morata’s struggles led the Spaniard to a move away from Stamford Bridge in January, new signing Gonzalo Higuain has failed to make any notable impact upon his arrival from Juventus earlier this year.

The Argentine has often looked out of pace and looks more or less, a misfit, to Sarri’s high-octane attacking philosophy at Chelsea. As a result, the Blues have continued to rely on the services of Eden Hazard, at least in terms of productivity.

However, the Belgian international is already on the verge of joining Real Madrid next season, thus accentuating the need for a new attacker. And that’s where Lewandowski could come into the fray as the Polish international can not only put away chances at ease but is also blessed with technical quality, which can help him link-up with his teammates in the final third.

He is also a well-rounded, athletic striker, who isn’t shy to attack the defenders and try and strip them of possession – qualities that are almost essential for Sarri’s tactical setup. In addition, Lewandowski is a physically astute attacker, who is equally good on the air, thus making him a tailor-made fit for Chelsea and more importantly, for the Premier League.

In the meantime, however, it remains to be seen whether or not the court agrees to listen to Chelsea’s appeal, failing which could spell huge trouble for the Premier League giants next season.
