German giants RB Leipzig are reportedly showing interest in two Chelsea academy graduates Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham.

According to a report by Daily Mail, a couple of Chelsea academy graduates are the subject of interest from Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig over a move in the summer transfer window. The German giants are eager to add to their young core by signing English talents, with the Chelsea duo their top targets.

Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are two of several Chelsea academy superstars who have not found a clear pathway to first-team football with the Blues after graduating from the youth setup. While Abraham has managed 74 minutes of action with the first-team, Mount has only managed to break into the under-23 side. But, both the players have been on song in the Championship this season.

Tammy Abraham is the leading light for Aston Villa in their bid to return to the Premier League, with a splendid record of 22 goals and 2 assists in 33 appearances in the second division. In fact, only Teemu Pukki and Billy Sharp have managed to find the back of the net more often than the 21-year-old.

Mason Mount, on the other hand, has impressed on-loan at Derby County, becoming one of the key players under the tutelage of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. In 33 appearances across all competitions, the 20-year-old has 7 goals and 5 assists, with his performances also helping him break into the England under-21 side.

The duo have made such a lasting impression on onlookers that it could be possible that they will leave Chelsea without ever becoming first-team regulars, especially with RB Leipzig keen on snapping them up in the summer transfer window.

The German giants currently have three top class strikers on their roster, with Timo Werner, Yussuf Poulsen and Jean-Kevin Augustin being three of the best players in Bundesliga. But, Werner is facing an uncertain future at Red Bull Arena Leipzig, which explains why they are interested in Abraham.

As for Mount, he could challenge the likes of Bruma, Emil Forsberg and Marcel Sabitzer for two of the spots in the middle of the park, while also being a fine option to play in a withdrawn role. And, the Chelsea academy duo could be persuaded by the fact that fellow English youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Ademola Lookman have enjoyed varying levels of success at Leipzig over the past year.

But, the report suggests that Chelsea might be keen on holding on to their talented duo, perhaps due to the uncertainties surrounding their transfer ban. But, should the players want to leave, the Blues’ hands might be tied, and it remains to be seen if RB Leipzig manage to sign either, or both of the promising youngsters in the summer.
