Barcelona are reportedly interested in Cerro Porteno wonderkid Fernando Ovelar and are considering a move to sign the Paraguayan starlet.

Spanish publication Sport have claimed that Barcelona are showing serious interest and intent to land Fernando Ovelar. The Cerro Porteno youngster is reportedly high on their agenda and the Catalan giants are looking to make the young forward their latest capture from Latin America.

Latin America produces a lot of world-class talents and a few generational ones as well. Lionel Messi was brought at Barcelona from Argentina when he was a young footballer with no real hopes of becoming a great footballer due to the lack of growth in his physical stature. Neymar was already famous and tipped to be the next superstar before moving out of Brazil.

But, Fernando Ovelar is a case of mixed effects. The youngster is only 15 but is already tipped to become a world beater. Ovelar made history by debuting for Cerro Porteno’s senior team in the Paraguayan Premier Division at the age of 14. Now 15, the player has already set records by becoming the youngest goalscorer as well, also at the age of 14.

Ovelar comes from a footballing family. His grandfather Geronimo Ovelar also represented Cerro Porteno and the Paraguayan National Team during the 1970s. Geronimo though, loved stopping goals while his grandson has grown to love scoring them.

Already in the Paraguayan Under-17 team and having scored on his debut for the side as well, it is mind-boggling to think that a player aged just 15 can already have 7 senior appearances for his club and a goal as well. It is only logical that a generational talent like Ovelar will attract interest from Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have been looking to usher in the next forward line to take over from Luis Suarez in the near future. While Ovelar is not expected to move to Barcelona or play for their senior team before he turns 18, locking in the future of the Cerro Porteno forward with their own club should be a priority, judging by the rave reviews he has been getting back in his homeland.

The report states that Barcelona chiefs did check up on Ovelar during their tour of the continent. Barcelona or not, Ovelar is on course to become a household name in the footballing world.
