Manchester United are reportedly set to launch a £35 million bid for Crystal Palace youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka as they step up their search for a right-back.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Manchester United are intensifying their pursuit of young English full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Red Devils are lining up a £35 million bid for the Crystal Palace youngster, who is seen as a long-term replacement for outbound veteran Antonio Valencia.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has taken the Premier League by storm, a mere year upon breaking into the Crystal Palace first-team setup. What has been more remarkable about his impressive performances is the fact that he has made the transition from a winger in his youth football days to being a solid full-back.

The English under-21 international is not just a dangerous outlet in the final third, but also holds his own at the back, something which seems to have piqued the interest of one of the biggest clubs in the world. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old in recent months.

The full-back situation at Old Trafford has been rather grim in recent years for one reason or another. For a long time, Luke Shaw’s struggles on the left side of the defence left a lot to be desired. But, while Shaw has stepped up well this term, the right-back slot has become an area of concern for Manchester United.

Antonio Valencia has regressed considerably over the course of the past year, so much so that he is now set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season. Ashley Young has been the first-choice right-back in Valencia’s stead, but the veteran Englishman is in the twilight of his career as well.

Matteo Darmian does not feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s scheme of things either, leaving Diogo Dalot as the only remaining long-term option for the right side of the Manchester United defence. To that end, the interest in Wan-Bissaka does make sense, as the addition of the youngster could help create a long-term tandem between him and Dalot.

Manchester United are now set to step up their pursuit of the 21-year-old, with the report suggesting that they will table a £35 million bid to Crystal Palace imminently. But, with Manchester City and Chelsea also interested, chances are the player’s valuation will rise.

For now, it looks like Manchester United will launch the offensive for Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, with reinforcing the right-back slot a priority. It now remains to be seen if the Red Devils are able to land the Crystal Palace prospect.
