Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale has reportedly emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for reigning German champions Bayern Munich.

As per an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are lining up a sensational bid to sign up wantaway Real Madrid star Gareth Bale in the summer transfer window.

Having moved to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, Bale has had a difficult time in Spain. The 29-year-old has seen immense success on the field, lifting as many as four UEFA Champions League trophies, along with a La Liga title as well. But, he has never been able to win over the club’s supporters, while a series of injury and fitness issues haven’t helped his case.

It has been a similar story once more for Bale this season. Widely expected to fill in the vacant shoes of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Welsh wing-wizard hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations, with injuries and poor form seeing him lose his starting spot to the likes of Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Junior in recent months.

Bale was back into the starting lineup for Real Madrid’s last league game against Celta Vigo, in what was Zinedine Zidane’s first match in-charge after replacing Santiago Solari. The former Spurs star made a solid impression and got on the scoresheet as well, but rumours of a possible summer exit refuse to go away.

Now, TEAMtalk reports that Bayern Munich have taken an interest in the Welshman’s situation and are planning to launch an attempt to sign him in the upcoming transfer window. Bayern Munich are in the market for a winger as Arjen Robben is set to move on at the end of the season, when his contract expires, while Franck Ribery will also see his deal with the Bavarian giants run out.

In Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and the talented starlet Alphonso Davies, Die Roten have quite a few options but they remain keen on adding a world-class wide player to their ranks, with Bale emerging as a target.

A source close to the situation told TEAMtalk, “This is a transfer that appeals to all sides, and to the player himself – who wouldn’t want to play for Bayern Munich? Real and Bayern have a good relationship, and this a deal that could get done.”

The report adds that Manchester United also retain an interest in Bale, but a return to the Premier League doesn’t interest the Welsh international currently.

Bale is contracted to Real Madrid till the summer of 2022, but has grown frustrated at the club and could push for an exit in the summer, despite president Florentino Perez’s fondness towards the player. Bayern Munich definitely have the financial muscle to pull off his signing, but it remains to be seen if they go down this road or choose to pursue an alternate target.
