Manchester United are the latest club to join the pursuit of PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who has been also courted by Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Sun, Manchester United have emerged as a potential suitor for PSG outcast Adrien Rabiot, who is destined to depart Parc des Princes this summer, after rejecting a new deal with the club. Rabiot’s current contract with PSG expires at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be available on a free transfer when the transfer window reopens in July.

As a result, a host of top clubs across Europe, including FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur were reported to be keen to make a move for the Frenchman. However, Manchester United’s apparent interest in the midfielder could certainly change things as far as the transfer saga is concerned.

The Red Devils are arguably enjoying their best form in the post-Alex Ferguson era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having suffered only one league defeat since December. This has led many fans to believe that they are certainly capable of pushing for the title next season.

However, it’s probably needless to say that United still have a lot of areas that need to be tended to, especially in the midfield department, where they have lacked the presence of a real leader.

Nemanja Matic has had a frustrating campaign, chock-full of injuries and inconsistencies while last summer arrival Fred has failed to live up to the expectations, thus accentuating the need for a new central midfielder.

Rabiot, in that regard, could be an excellent choice for the Red Devils as he can not only provide the necessary defensive cover for the backline but also take the pressure off from Paul Pogba with his excellent passing and ball distribution.

Indeed, the 23-year-old is known for his composure on the ball, which can be beneficial for an attack-minded team like Manchester United. But, most importantly, he is an aggressive midfielder, who likes to restrict the opposition ball-carrier of time and space, thus allowing him to initiate turnovers in the middle third of the pitch.

A move to Old Trafford could be logical for Rabiot as well, as he will be presented with the golden opportunity of proving himself in one of the most successful clubs in Europe while the Frenchman will also look to make an impression after being omitted from the French national team in last year’s FIFA World Cup.

However, Manchester United will certainly need to be swift and a tad lucky if they are to secure the services of this talented midfielder, who is set to become a hot prospect in the upcoming summer transfer window.
