Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanchez is reportedly set for a summer departure from Old Trafford, with the Red Devils hoping to send him out on loan.

According to a report by The Sun, the patience surrounding Alexis Sanchez seems to have run out at Old Trafford. The Chilean attacker does not feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for next season, meaning Manchester United are ready to send him out on loan in the summer transfer window.

Alexis Sanchez arrived at Manchester United as part of a shock swap deal in January 2018 with Arsenal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the opposite direction. Having finished as one of the top scorers in the Premier League the season prior, there were unsurprisingly high expectations from him.

But, the 30-year-old has been a pale shadow of the all-conquering attacker that dominated opposition defences at will. His tally while at Manchester United makes for grim reading, with Sanchez managing just five goals and 9 assists in 41 appearances thus far.

Apart from the poor returns, the player’s constant absences through injuries this season have only added to the frustrations surrounding him. And, as per the report, the breaking point has been reached at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks primed to be appointed as the permanent Manchester United manager soon, with the Premier League heavyweights reportedly preparing a £6 million compensation package for the Norwegian’s former club Molde. And so, the current interim boss is starting to lay down the plans for the summer transfer window, as well as the upcoming season.

To that end, The Sun suggest that Sanchez is not a part of Solskjaer’s plans for next season, having failed to impress him over the last three months. But, offloading the Chilean international on a permanent deal will be a complicated process, owing to his eye-watering £25 million-a-year wages.

Instead, United will make the player available for a loan deal so as to persuade clubs to sign him on a temporary deal for the entirety of the 2019-20 season. And so, we might have seen the last of Sanchez at Manchester United for the time being, with the 30-year-old slated to return towards the end of the season.

For now, what appears certain, as per the report, is that Manchester United are hoping to move on Alexis Sanchez as part of a loan deal in the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if clubs start joining the race to sign him, or if he does not find any suitor.
