Manchester United and Liverpool are among an array of clubs that are set to pursue the signature of PSV winger Steven Bergwijn in the summer.

According to the report from TeamTalk, there are several clubs plotting a summer move for Steven Bergwijn. The report states that Manchester United and Liverpool are among a flurry of clubs chasing the Dutchman and that PSV are bracing themselves for a summer battle to retain their star winger.

Among other clubs named in the report are Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund, with the report also crediting Dutch publication De Telegraaf for the information.

Steven Bergwijn is a name that has started doing the rounds, thanks to the blistering campaign he is having for PSV Eindhoven this season. Having moved to PSV at a young age from Ajax youth, Bergwijn has been on fire this season, especially in Eredivisie, wherein he boasts a return of 11 goals and 12 assists in 24 matches so far.

Bergwijn received his senior cap for Netherlands in October, 2018 and is thought to be earmarked as a player that would play a key role in the nation’s revival on the international stage. Primarily a left winger, his ability to play on the right and as a centre-forward underlines his versatility and utility for big teams who like interchangeability in attack.

Manchester United do not really need a left winger, with plenty of options in their squad right now. But, with Alexis Sanchez likely to be on his way out in the summer and Marcus Rashford being used upfront, the left wing has just Anthony Martial.

Also, with Solskjaer playing 4-4-2 more often, that could open the space for Bergwijn to play on the right and still receive the ball with space to run into, something he likes to do.

Liverpool have probably, the most stacked attack in the Premier League alongside Manchester City. But, Jurgen Klopp is still unsatisfied with his options, with no players beyond Xherdan Shaqiri to fall back upon once the terrific trio starts misfiring.

PSV are aware of the interest and are gearing up for a summer bidding war for Bergwijn. The 21-year-old had opted to stay at PSV in the past couple of transfer windows, but is unlikely to hold off on a move to a big European club in the summer. With the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and many more in queue, it will likely be an exciting summer for PSV and Bergwijn.
