Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Italian sensation Federico Chiesa, who had been on Chelsea’s radar in the past, in the summer window.

As per a report from The Sun, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are set to join the chase for Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa, who is also being monitored by the likes of AC Milan and Juventus. The Italian forward had been previously linked with a switch to Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea.

Having come through the youth ranks at Fiorentina, Chiesa broke into the first-team back in 2016 and has gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising young attacking players across Europe. The 21-year-old has racked up 101 appearance for the Serie A side till date, netting 21 times and assisting 20 more.

The 2018-19 campaign has been Chiesa’s most prolific till date, with the Italian having come up with returns of 11 goals and 8 assists in 29 games across all competitions. His rise in stature over the past year has seen a number of clubs take serious interest in the attacker, with Tottenham now joining the chasing pack.

Tottenham did not make any signings in the last two transfer windows, with the costs of the new stadium holding them back from splurging in the market. However, having seen their Premier League title challenge hit the rocks in the past few weeks, chairman Daniel Levy has decided to back manager Mauricio Pochettino in the summer window, as per the report.

The report further adds that Pochettino is keen on boosting his attacking ranks further and with Chiesa receiving glowing reports from the Spurs scouts, the North London outfit are planning a summer swoop for the 11-time capped Italy international.

However, any potential move for Chiesa would require Tottenham to stump up a whopping £70 million in transfer fees, which could prove to be a stumbling block. And to further complicate matters, the 21-year-old is also being courted by Italian giants Juventus along with both the Milan clubs.

Chiesa had been linked with a switch to Chelsea sometime ago and the report from The Sun claims that the Italian was keen on securing a move to London. But, with Chelsea being hit with a transfer ban, the chances of a transfer to Stamford Bridge have scuppered, handing Tottenham a boost in their pursuit of the talented attacker.

Able to play in the wide areas or through the middle, Chiesa is clearly meant for bigger and better things. The 21-year-old has shown great promise in his fledgling career and has the potential to be an excellent addition to Tottenham. But, it remains to be seen if Spurs are willing to splash the cash in order to land their man in the summer.
