Manchester United are reportedly open to breaking their club transfer record in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho in the summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are prepared to sanction a club record £100 million offer to try and sign Borussia Dortmund’s teenage sensation Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window.

Sancho, a product of the Manchester City youth academy, has taken the footballing world by storm since switching Manchester for Dortmund in 2017. Having featured for only 12 times in his debut season, during which he scored one goal and assisted four more, the 18-year-old has stepped up in a huge way this time out, establishing himself as a bonafide star.

The former Manchester City wonderkid has come up with an amazing return of 9 goals and 14 assists in 32 matches across all competitions, playing an integral role in Dortmund’s title charge. This terrific rise in stature saw him break into the England national team as well towards the end of the last year.

Sancho’s growth over the past couple of seasons hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Manchester United emerging as strong admirers of the 18-year-old’s talents. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a summer move for the England international recently and as per the latest report from Mirror, they are ready to sanction a whopping £100 million bid in order to land the teenager.

Manchester United, after a dismal first half of the season, have managed to recover strongly ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed the interim manager till the end of the season. Under the Norwegian, the 20-time English champions haven’t lost a single Premier League game and are back in the top four, after the comeback 3-2 win against Southampton this weekend.

It is still uncertain as to who is going to be the Manchester United manager next season, although it is looking increasingly likely that Solskjaer could be given the job permanently. However, plans for the summer window seem to be well underway, with the club identifying the right flank as an area that needs strengthening.

Manchester United have been lacking a natural right-sided winger in their ranks for some time now, with the club being forced to use Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata out wide – neither of whom offer the width and the directness that someone of Sancho’s quality would be able to bring to the table.

The 18-year-old signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund in October last year, extending his stay at the club till the summer of 2022. While the German league leaders will be reluctant to lose their crown jewel, they have shown previously that they will offload their star players should the right offer come along.

And should Manchester United go ahead with the reported £100 million offer in the summer, Dortmund are likely to find it hard to refuse. However, the report further adds that the Red Devils will face stiff competition from French champions PSG, who are also interested in Sancho. It remains to be seen if Manchester United are able to land their target in the summer or not.
