Thibaut Courtois has suggested Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard’s name as a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

As reported by Daily Mirror, who have quoted him from his interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Thibaut Courtois has put forward former Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard’s name to be the long-sought replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have struggled to adapt to life after Cristiano Ronaldo following his departure to Juventus last summer. Real Madrid were subsequently linked with a number of wingers, with Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard reportedly being one of their targets.

Thus far this season, Real Madrid have been heavily dependent on Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior to produce the goods, with Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez being inconsistent. And so, it will come as no surprise if Santiago Solari is eager to bolster his attack in the summer.

To that end, the links with Hazard have resurfaced lately, with the Belgian international also flirting with the idea of joining his “dream club” Real Madrid. And, former Chelsea teammate Thibaut Courtois has added fuel to the fire.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the Real Madrid number one said, “I [would prefer] choose Eden, of course. I really like him, but the choice is up to the board. I do not know what will happen. That is not a question for me, but for the chairman and the management.”

Hazard’s departure ought to be a huge loss to the Chelsea first-team squad, considering how dependent they have been on the Belgian for attacking returns this season. But, with Maurizio Sarri insisting that his star man is free to leave the club if he so wishes to, it is unlikely that the Blues will stand in the player’s way if Real Madrid come calling.

Hazard already has a supporter in Courtois, as far as Real Madrid are concerned. But, it remains to be seen if Los Blancos indeed pay heed to the Belgian shot stopper’s advice and swoop his compatriot away from Chelsea in the summer transfer window. For now, things remain in the balance, as far as Eden Hazard’s future is concerned.
