Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi is reportedly the subject of a fresh £40 million bid by reigning German champions Bayern Munich, amid RB Leipzig interest.
As per a report from the Daily Mail, German heavyweights Bayern Munich are set to make another attempt to sign Chelsea wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi, as they look to beat competition from fellow Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
The 18-year-old winger is one of the most highly-rated players to have come through the Chelsea youth ranks in recent years and is held in very high regard in and around the Stamford Bridge. Having made his first-team debut in January last year under Antonio Conte, he went on to make four appearances till the end of the 2017-18 term.
In the ongoing campaign, Hudson-Odoi has featured ten times across all competitions under new boss Maurizio Sarri, scoring a solitary goal and setting up two more. But the winger hasn’t started a single game in the Premier League and has till date seen just 61 minutes of top-flight action.
The lack of regular first-team football hasn’t sat well with the 18-year-old, leading him to seek a transfer away from the West London outfit, either in January or in the summer.
Bayern Munich want to capitalize on the player’s current situation and to that end, have made multiple offers for Hudson-Odoi this month, all of which have been knocked back by Chelsea.
The Bavarian giants are looking to boost up their attack, with Arjen Robben set to leave the club at the end of the season, while Franck Ribery is also in the twilight of his career. And they are hoping to convince Chelsea to part with their prized asset with an offer of £40 million.
However, they are not the only club interested in Hudson-Odoi, with RB Leipzig too keen on signing the talented teenager. The Bundesliga side are willing to shell out £20 million for the 18-year-old and are open to inserting a buyback clause in the deal to allow Chelsea to sign him back in the future – something that Bayern are not willing to do.
Hudson-Odoi’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer of 2020 and the Blues are intent on tying him down with a new deal. The Premier League side are believed to have offered the 18-year-old a new contract worth £80,000-a-week, which he has rejected as he has his sights set on a move to Bayern.
Given his contract will run down in 18 months, Hudson-Odoi’s transfer value will drop significantly once the current transfer window slams shut this coming Thursday.
Chelsea have a huge decision to make in the coming days. Should they decide to sell Hudson-Odoi, they are likely to prefer a move to RB Leipzig, given the possibility of a buyback clause. But with the player himself extremely intent on joining Bayern, it will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming days.
