Real Madrid are reportedly set to offer James Rodriguez, who is also a target for Arsenal, in the deal to land Tottenham superstar Christian Eriksen.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid are willing to pull out all the stops in order to secure the services of Christian Eriksen. Los Blancos are ready to offer James Rodriguez, who has been heavily linked with Arsenal, as part of the deal to sign the Tottenham superstar.

Eriksen is the biggest subject of concern at Tottenham, with the Dane one of two key players whose future remains unresolved – the other being Toby Alderweireld. Like Alderweireld though, it is looking likelier with every new rumour that the 26-year-old will not be a Spurs superstar next season.

While a number of clubs have been linked with Eriksen, Real Madrid are known to hold the most concrete of interests in the Danish international, and for good reason, with creative reinforcements an urgent need of the hour.

Luka Modric is starting to regain his form after a slow start to the season. But, at 33, he is well and truly in the twilight of his career, meaning Real Madrid ought to lay down the succession plan for the veteran playmaker. To that end, Eriksen is the sort of player who can be a like-for-like replacement at Santiago Bernabeu.

Tottenham though, are notoriously known to drive a hard bargain for their players, which will likely be the case for Eriksen as well, despite the fact that he will have less than a year remaining on his deal in the summer. But, Real Madrid are hoping to use an Arsenal target in order to persuade Spurs to part ways with the Danish superstar.

James Rodriguez has been heavily linked with Arsenal, who is being eyed as a possible replacement for Mesut Ozil. The Gunners are already believed to have initiated discussions with Real Madrid over a possible transfer in the summer.

The Colombian superstar is unlikely to be bought in a permanent deal by Bayern Munich, with injuries and poor form restricting him to just 12 appearances this season. Real Madrid are not keen to retain the services of James either, and so, it does make sense to bypass Arsenal’s interest and offer him to Tottenham, if they can land Eriksen in the process.

Los Blancos are hoping to lower Tottenham’s asking price for the 26-year-old, and the fact that they could secure the services of an able replacement in James while also beating Arsenal to his signature might just be a tempting prospect.

It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid can lure Tottenham to cash in on Christian Eriksen by offering James Rodriguez as part of the deal. As for Arsenal, they might become collateral damage in Los Blancos’ bid to land their top target in the summer.
