Eder Militao, one of the primary defensive targets for Manchester United, prefers a move to Spain, according to his agent.

The report by Manchester Evening News point towards the possibility that the versatile Brazilian wouldn’t ditch his club high and dry in January.

His agent, Giuliano Bertolucci however has said that they would be willing to negotiate with Real Madrid for a summer move.

The Italian quoted, “There is no possibility of the player leaving his current club in the winter market. We’re not ruling out his signing for Real Madrid in the summer.”

The report states that the sides have agreed on the terms behind closed doors. The transfer would be for €50 million and the contract is expected to run up to 2025. The credibility of the source is questionable though.

Militao has attracted further interest from clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton, making the defender one of the hottest properties in the transfer market. The primary reason for such hype for the player is his ability to flourish in multiple positions like right-back, centre-back or as a holding midfielder.

Being mooted out of the race to land the defender may come as a shock for Manchester United, who were ready to cough up £44.7 million for Militao.

The rumors say that the Red Devils might just be ready to go in a bidding war against the Los Blancos after 6 months.

In any case, FC Porto are all set to make a hefty profit with the transfer of Eder Militao. The Brazilian was signed for a palsy £3.6 million from FC São Paulo only last summer. Since then, the defender has been instrumental in the club’s domination of Liga NOS.

Interestingly, Sao Paulo is set gain 10% of all his transfer fees for the rest of his career as a part of the deal struck during his move last year.

The player is currently valued at £31.5 million and the FC Porto have stated earlier that they wouldn’t let go of their star defender for a dime below £40 million.

The odds are stacked against Manchester United to execute this transfer and to make the matters tougher, the money-doling Real Madrid are their competitors. Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the interim caretaker has an uphill task in front of him, but his arrival at Old Trafford would potentially cure the side of their defense woes.
