Manchester United have joined Arsenal in pursuit of Yannick Carrasco, the Belgian winger’s wife has confirmed.

In an interview with Belgian outlet RTBF, Noemie Happart, Yannick Carrasco’s wife, has revealed that Manchester United are showing keen interest in signing her husband. The Belgian superstar, who plays for Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, is also the subject of interest from Arsenal.

Carrasco created quite a stir when he chose to call time on his stint with Atletico Madrid to opt for the riches of the Chinese Super League by joining Dalian Yifang eleven months ago. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a decent spell at the club thus far, having amassed 7 goals and 9 assists in 26 appearances.

But, the Belgian international has been heavily linked with a move back to Europe in the ongoing transfer window, with a gamut of clubs interested in signing him. One such club is Arsenal, who have now been joined by Manchester United in pursuit of Carrasco.

The interest from Arsenal does make sense considering Unai Emery does not have a single natural winger at his disposal. The manager has, in fact, had to rely on the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck to man the wide areas, something that none of the players are naturally adept at.

Carrasco is thus, a viable target, who could provide the best years of his career to Arsenal. But, the Gunners are not alone in pursuit of the 25-year-old, with Manchester United also interested, as confirmed by the player’s wife, Noemie Happart.

“There are lots of clubs looking at him. Lots of clubs have been in touch with him. Lots of clubs are interested. Yannick has received offers from Germany, Spain, England and Italy but nothing has been truly concrete up to now, nothing has been signed. Yes, they [Manchester United] are very interested. I won’t hide it from you but nothing has been signed.”

Manchester United have tailed Carrasco previously before they ended up turning their attention elsewhere. But, for a long time, bolstering the right side of the attack has been a priority for the Red Devils, with none of the forwards in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad capable of making a telling impact on the right flank.

The Premier League heavyweights have thus, been in the market for attacking reinforcements, with the former Atletico Madrid man being their latest target. And, Happart’s comments suggest, a January move could be possible, either to Manchester United or Arsenal, even if big developments have not taken place yet.

What does appear to be certain is that Carrasco is open to a move back to Europe. And, if a January move does not see the light of the day, chances are the Belgian international might just end up joining Manchester United, Arsenal or some other big name club in the summer.
