Kalidou Koulibaly has dropped a major transfer hint ahead as the transfer window reopened, amid rumours of a £100 million move to Manchester United.

As pointed out in a report by Daily Mirror, Kalidou Koulibaly has fuelled rumours that he could be about to join Manchester United, after sending a “see you soon” message to Paul Pogba. The Senegalese centre-back is believed to be valued around £100 million by Napoli.

Koulibaly has become a force to be reckoned with since joining Napoli from KRC Genk in the summer of 2014. Over the last four years, the player has gone from strength to strength, and is now regarded as one of the best centre-backs, not just in Italy but across Europe.

However, Koulibaly was recently in the eye of the storm, as he was subjected to racist chants by Inter Milan fans during Napoli’s Serie A tie against the Nerazzurri. And, the player has now fuelled transfer speculation by what could be a hint towards joining Manchester United.

Manchester United have been in the market for a centre-back for quite some time now, with Jose Mourinho an advocate for extensive spending to sign a top class defender last summer. While Mourinho may have been shown the door, the problems at the back have not dissipated at Old Trafford.

In the three games that have been overseen by caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United have continued looking vulnerable at the back, and have shipped in a goal apiece in each of the ties. And, the grapevine suggests that the Norwegian has identified defence as one of the areas that need strengthening this month.

Koulibaly thus, continues to be a top target for Manchester United, who are believed to be ready to table a £100 million bid for him. The player though, recently admitted towards signing a new deal with Napoli – the renewal has not been officially confirmed yet – and asserting that he is happy and content in Naples.

Napoli too, have been intent on firmly keeping hold of their prized asset, having already knocked back a world record bid for a centre-back. But, Manchester United fans could be in for a New Year’s gift after recent comments by the player on one of Paul Pogba’s Instagram posts.

Following the 3-1 win over Bournemouth this past weekend, Pogba took to Instagram to hail his Manchester United teammates while also expressing his support for Koulibaly, having worn a white wristband for the same.

Pogba’s post said, “Well done guys beautiful way to finish the year + honour hand-band for @kkoulibaly26. 2019 say NO to racism,” to which Koulibaly replied, “Thank you my bro for the supporting! Congratulation for the goals and the victory! See you soon bro.”

If it indeed is a hint towards joining Manchester United this month, it would be in stark contrast to his aforementioned comments over a renewal. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if a £100 million move sees the light of the day, or if the 27-year-old ends up staying put at Napoli, who have expressed their support over the racism row as well.
