Chelsea are reportedly confident of agreeing a move to sign Callum Wilson, with the Bournemouth striker likely to cost around £30 million.

According to a report from Express, Chelsea are ready to delve into the market in January to sign a new striker amidst their misfiring frontline. The Blues are interested in Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and are confident of agreeing a deal worth £30 million to sign the Englishman.

Wilson is a product of the Coventry youth setup. But, it is the move to Bournemouth in the summer of 2014 that foresaw the rise of the forward. The right-footed poacher has had a steady growth within the English footballing scene and has now become not just a key player for Bournemouth but also a potent striker by Premier League standards.

The 2018-19 campaign though, has been a new high for Callum Wilson, who has eight goals and six assists in 15 Premier League games. The striker has already equalled his best tally in a Premier League campaign, with more than half of the campaign left. His performances have led to an interest in his services from Chelsea.

Chelsea’s struggles to equip their frontline since the departure of Diego Costa have been apparent. But, the present campaign has posed the biggest of problems, with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud both misfiring at crucial junctures. Another problem that might arise is the Home Grown quota, which is fine right now but will be cause for worry.

Gary Cahill is being tipped to leave the club, so is Andreas Christensen. Cesc Fabregas is linked to a move to Italy while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also reportedly seeking newer pastures. Danny Drinkwater is already frozen out and will likely leave at the earliest opportunity.

Chelsea have thus, made it a mission to try and buy British in order to re-affirm to the Home Grown rules. The Blues will be promoting from their academy but will still need to add from the market as well. And Callum Wilson will not just be a placeholder by any means, with the striker already showing petulance that could stand him in good stead.

According to the report, Chelsea are ready to shell out £30 million to get Callum Wilson. While the fee quoted is decent, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe recognises the talent Wilson possesses and is not willing to let the striker leave regardless of the amount the bid represents.

Chelsea need reinforcements in attack at the earliest. But, any deal in January for a well-settled player carries a premium and they might have to incur the same in order to get the Bournemouth forward. Everything though, depends on whether Eddie Howe decides to sign a replacement.
