Real Madrid are reportedly pondering over a summer swoop to sign Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante to bolster their midfield department.

If a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon is to be believed, N’Golo Kante is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish heavyweights are eyeing the French superstar as their top target to reinforce their midfield, with Florentino Perez keeping a close eye on his progress at Chelsea over the last two years.

Kante has been a holding midfield extraordinaire in Premier League since Day One, having initially joined Leicester City from Caen in the summer of 2015. In his very first season in English football, the Frenchman guided the Foxes to the Premier League title before joining Chelsea, repeating the feat with them in the following season.

Kante has made an impact on international level as well, playing a pivotal role in France’s World Cup triumph earlier this year. But, it is his exploits at Stamford Bridge that have brought the spotlight on the 27-year-old, with Real Madrid showing some serious interest in swooping him away from Chelsea.

Real Madrid have had their eyes on Chelsea for some time now, albeit largely due to their interest in Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois. While Courtois ended up making his way to the Bernabeu this past summer, Hazard continues to remain a target. But, there is a third player who is now occupying their attention, and for good reason.

Real Madrid’s midfield has borne a brittle look this season, with opponents finding it easy to overrun the midfielders at times. With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos unable to contribute defensively on a consistent basis, and Casemiro not being in the best of forms, the need to sign a holding midfielder has arisen.

Kante is thus, a viable target for Real Madrid, who are eyeing the Chelsea superstar to create a midfield pivot alongside Casemiro in a bid to provide more stability in the middle of the park while allowing players like Modric and Marcelo the freedom to roam into the final third.

Chelsea though, are likely to be unwilling to part ways with the Frenchman, having already initiated talks to make him their highest paid player as part of a bumper new deal. Real Madrid will thus, face an uphill task in their bid to land Kante, who they will need to convince to part ways with the Blues to stand any chance of securing his services.

Los Blancos will also hope to tempt Chelsea to let go of their prized possession by tabling a staggering bid worth €140 million. However, it remains to be seen if the Blues are willing to do business with Real Madrid at any amount, considering how important a player Kante has been at the Bridge for over two years.
