Barcelona are reportedly set to target PSV Eindhoven superstar Hirving Lozano as a possible candidate to replace Luis Suarez.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Hirving Lozano is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Blaugrana are set to enter the transfer market to identify possible replacement options for star striker Luis Suarez, who is himself involved in the search for his successor.

Hirving Lozano has become a household name ever since foraying into European football by joining PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2017. Over the last 15 months or so, the player has not only established himself as a pivotal player for the Dutch giants, but has also made a name for himself in international football.

The tricky forward was one of the standout young players at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, playing a key role in Mexico’s campaign. His advent has piqued the interest of several clubs, none of which have been more forthcoming than Barcelona.

In fact, Lozano has himself confirmed that Barcelona were in touch with his agent in the summer, which is proof enough that the Blaugrana have their sights firmly set on him. But, conventional wisdom would suggest they would target the promising youngster to reinforce their wide areas.

However, the report claims that Barcelona are eyeing Lozano as a possible candidate to replace Luis Suarez in the long run. In fact, Suarez himself has put the player’s name forward as his successor, which is slightly perplexing considering he has never really played as a striker.

Barcelona do need to identify the perfect replacement option for the ageing Uruguayan striker, who has shown signs of slowing down. But, widespread reports thus far have only suggested traditional strikers being the subject of attention from the Catalans.

Instead, Lozano could possibly become a long-term solution on either flank, with both Malcom and Ousmane Dembele facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou. Either way, it looks like Lozano is set to be targeted for a big move, which will possibly be launched next summer.

The player also has the seal of approval from Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, with Eric Abidal also identifying him as a top target. That he is open to making the switch to Camp Nou also stands the La Liga champions in good stead, in case they have to fend off competition in Lozano’s pursuit.

Hirving Lozano is an attractive target for Barcelona, who look set to launch a move for him next summer. It now remains to be seen if he indeed succeeds Suarez in the long run, or if he is used out wide instead.
