Liverpool have reportedly withdrawn interest in Arsenal superstar Aaron Ramsey, who is also a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Liverpool are not interested in signing Aaron Ramsey despite his attractive contract situation. The Welshman, who is also the subject of interest from Chelsea among other clubs, will be free to leave Arsenal at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Aaron Ramsey’s non-existent future at Arsenal has become a well documented subject by now. It has been weeks since talks over a new deal broke down, even though the player has iterated that he would like to stay put at the Emirates even after his contract with the Gunners ends at the end of the season.

But, the latest reports have suggested that the club have personally told Ramsey that he will not be given a new contract, thus confirming his departure. With the likelihood of snapping up the Welshman being high, several big name clubs have been linked with him, including the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chelsea hold a long-standing interest in Ramsey, having even attempted to sign him in the summer. Now though, the Blues boast one of the most formidable midfield units. However, Mateo Kovacic’s future at Stamford Bridge is not certain, with the West Londoners not having an option to buy the Croat at the end of his loan deal.

If they fail to sign Kovacic on a permanent deal next summer, Chelsea will have to turn their attention elsewhere, making Ramsey a viable target. Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but the Reds do not seem to be interested in him, and for good reason.

Liverpool are well stocked in the midfield department following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho in the summer. In addition to the duo, Jurgen Klopp also has the likes of James Milner, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson at his disposal, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be an option as well next season.

Therefore, it made very little sense for Liverpool to make a move for Ramsey, even if he is going to be available for free. The ouster of the Merseyside club from the chasing pack for the player now makes Chelsea’s pursuit a little more straightforward, although there will likely be more suitors in his pursuit as his Arsenal career winds down.

For now, what remains certain is that Liverpool are out of the reckoning for Ramsey, who is set to leave Arsenal. Chelsea are in the hunt though, and with the Welsh international open to joining them, they will fancy their chances of securing his services for no amount while also possibly handing him a lucrative deal.
