Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Harry Maguire and are readying a fresh £60 million bid to sign the English international

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United have reignited their interest in Harry Maguire ahead of the reopening of the transfer window in January. The Red Devils are preparing a fresh bid worth £60 million for the English international, who recently penned a five-year deal with Leicester City.

Maguire was one of several centre-backs who were linked with a big-money move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. But, as has been well documented over the last couple of months, the move for the English international was one of a number of deals that never saw the light of the day.

Following their failure to sign a centre-back, things have unravelled for Manchester United, especially on the defensive front. With his demands being vindicated, Mourinho is reportedly set to receive the backing of the club board to pursue a move for a centre-back in the January transfer window. To that end, Maguire has emerged as a target once again.

Maguire has been one of the standout centre-backs in the Premier League since he sealed a move from Hull City to Leicester City in the summer of 2017. Since then, his progress has not only made him a target for bigger clubs, but also a full fledged English international.

In the first two months or so of the 2018-19 season, Maguire has been the shining light in a vulnerable defensive unit at Leicester. So, it does not really come as a surprise that Manchester United are back in the hunt to secure his services.

The report suggests that the struggling Mancunian outfit are ready to shell out £60 million to acquire his services in the January transfer window. Manchester United are also willing to double his £75,000-a-week wages to lure the English international into penning a deal at Old Trafford.

But, considering he recently signed a news five-year deal with Leicester, it remains to be seen if the aforementioned offer is enough for Manchester United to land Maguire. The report suggests that the Foxes wanted £70 million in exchange of the player’s services in the summer, and it might take a similar bid to complete the move.

Maguire though, is open to departing from the King Power Stadium to join Manchester United, who would still be regretting the fact that they spurned the chance to sign him on the cheap last year. As far as a January move is concerned, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can sign him belatedly with the £60 million  offer.
