Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly been alerted by the contract situation of Inter Milan superstar Milan Skriniar.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester United and Manchester City have received a major boost in pursuit of in-demand Slovakian superstar Milan Skriniar. The 23-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with Inter Milan, who are eager tie him down to a bumper new deal to ward off his suitors.

Skrinar’s stock continues to rise with each passing performance for Inter Milan, with many regarding him to be one of the fastest growing defenders in the world. His advent has helped the Slovakian superstar garner a lot of attention, with Manchester United and Manchester City among the leading clubs in his pursuit.

At Manchester United, the interest in Skriniar does not come as much of a surprise, with Jose Mourinho being eager to bolster his backline for several months now. Skriniar was, in fact, among his targets in the frustrating summer transfer window that ended with no incoming centre-backs at Old Trafford.

Heading into the January transfer window, however, the club’s board is ready to back Mourinho with the required funds to improve his squad, with the in-demand superstar being a viable target. But, Manchester United are not alone in pursuit of Skriniar, with local rivals Manchester City also providing stiff competition.

Manchester City’s interest in Skriniar comes as a bit of a surprise, considering Pep Guardiola already has four top class centre-backs at his disposal. But, it is also important to note that Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany are on the wrong side of 30, and could start getting phased out in due time.

Skriniar is thus, someone whose addition could facilitate the said phasing out of the veteran duo at Manchester City. The Premier League champions and Manchester United have now received a major boost in their chase of the 23-year-old.

Inter Milan are eager to tie Skriniar down to a bumper new deal despite the fact that his current deal still has close to four years left to run. But, a measly yearly salary of €1.7 million makes him prone to being offered a new deal by cash rich clubs, namely Manchester United, Manchester City and others.

Skriniar is demanding a significant hike in wages, up to around €3 million, which the Nerazzurri have been unwilling to match, which puts them in somewhat of a spot of bother. But, the lengthy duration of his existing deal means Inter still hold the aces, as far as his valuation is concerned.

The Serie A heavyweights remain confident of reaching an agreement over a new contract with Milan Skriniar. But, if they don’t, Manchester United and Manchester City will be waiting in the wings, ready to make an offer to bring him to the Premier League.
