Eden Hazard is keen on a reunion with Jose Mourinho, and admitted to his regret at not being able to work with the Manchester United boss anymore at Chelsea

In an interview with Belgian outlet HLN, Eden Hazard talked about Jose Mourinho’s acrimonious exit from Chelsea midway through the 2015-16 season. The Belgian superstar also said that he is keen on a reunion with the Manchester United boss sometime in the future.

This is not the first time that Hazard has spoken about Mourinho’s departure from Chelsea for a second time, having previously expressed his grief over the manager’s axing. While some of those sentiments have been echoed once again by the 27-year-old in his latest interview, the Belgian has also iterated his desire to reunite with Mourinho one day.

“The last season under Mourinho was not enjoyable. We didn’t win, we got into a sort of routine, training without having fun, it was better for all parties that we parted ways. But if I’m asked now about one coach with whom I want to work again, I would say Mourinho.”

“I don’t regret many things in my career, but that I have not been able to work with Mourinho at Chelsea anymore is one of them. We had a team that could win more trophies. We just ended up in a negative cycle.”

Mourinho departed from Chelsea in acrimonious fashion in December 2015, with the then-defending Premier League champions languishing at 16th on the table. Hazard endured his worst ever campaign that term, failing to find the back of the net in the league till the penultimate month as the Blues eventually finished 10th.

Hazard was reported to be one of the culprits for Mourinho’s axing, but the player’s comments and loyalty towards his managers and Chelsea, in general, since then suggest that might not have been the case.

Meanwhile, at Manchester United, there are echoes of the aforementioned campaign, with the Red Devils struggling to perform at their best. At the same time, there are widespread reports of a dressing room unrest, a la Chelsea in the 2015-16 season.

As far as a reunion with Mourinho is concerned, it is unlikely to happen at Manchester United, even though the rumour mill has previously claimed the Red Devils’ interest in him. But, it might just happen at Real Madrid, who hold a long-standing interest in Hazard and are the Belgian’s dream club.

Mourinho is reportedly a candidate to replace the under-fire Julen Lopetegui, if the Spaniard is sacked by Real Madrid. For now though, it is all a long shot, with Hazard admittedly happy at Chelsea, and has insisted that he will not force a transfer away from Stamford Bridge or get into a conflict with the Blues.

A future reunion might just happen in the latter stages of Hazard’s contract. In the current scheme of things, Eden Hazard is content and firing at Chelsea, while Jose Mourinho battles for his Manchester United future.
