Barcelona are reportedly looking to strengthen the right side of their defence and their search has led them to Girona wonderkid Pedro Porro.

Spanish publication Don Balon are speculating that Barcelona are ready to axe Nelson Semedo from the squad. The club will now be on the lookout for a replacement for the Portuguese while also scouring for a readymade superstar to don the right flank. Girona youngster Pedro Porro is of interest to the Catalan giants as a potential replacement for Semedo.

Nelson Semedo has failed to establish himself at Barcelona. Into his second season at the club, the Portuguese still finds himself playing second fiddle to Sergi Roberto, who has harboured intentions of playing in midfield. But, the lack of a reliable right-back has forced Ernesto Valverde’s hands.

Barcelona are looking at high-profile names to don the right flank. But, a January move will be highly unlikely, with a depleted budget thanks to the hefty summer spending. Eric Abidal is well aware of the need to shore up the right flank and has Girona youngster Pedro Porro on his radar as a potential January arrival.

Pedro Porro is not a new name. The youngster has been linked with Manchester City on a few occasions as well. The 19-year-old is currently enjoying first-team football at Girona, a team that has caught everyone by surprise with their style of football and results against the top teams in La Liga.

At 19, Porro is a prospect worth keeping an eye on. While he is unlikely to be thrust into the Barcelona starting lineup from his onset, the youngster can expect to be a part of the first-team setup, something that Barcelona might attempt to tempt him with.

Manchester City are also keeping track of the player’s progress. The Citizens will have an advantage in negotiations, having established an affiliation with Girona.

For Spanish youngsters, or any player for that matter, donning the Blaugrana jersey is a matter of pride, a stuff of dreams.

Barcelona will be looking to raise funds with the sale of Nelson Semedo. Chances are, we will see Barcelona launch a move for Pedro Porro in January, if they manage to rake in some revenue by offloading Semedo. January or otherwise, Porro is quickly gaining traction.
