Manchester United and Arsenal are among a few clubs that are keeping an eye on highly-rated Hertha Berlin wonderkid Arne Maier.

The Mirror are speculating that Manchester United and Arsenal are taking a keen interest in Arne Maier. The highly-rated Hertha Berlin star has been labelled as an up-and-coming superstar and has caught the eye of United, Arsenal and Juventus with his performances.

Arne Maier joined Hertha Berlin at the age of nine and has since progressed through the different age groups. The midfielder was handed his senior debut in the 2016-17 season. The campaign was Maier’s true breakout campaign, with the youngster recording 21 appearances in all competitions at the senior level, establishing himself as a prospect.

But, not many would have envisaged Maier playing such a key role in the 2018-19 season. The 19-year-old has played every minute of Hertha Berlin’s campaign so far. Ever present in the Hertha Berlin midfield, Maier’s performances are starting to draw attention from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus among several other top clubs.

Manchester United reinforced their midfield with Fred over the summer, with the return of Andreas Pereira from his successful loan spell also bolstering Jose Mourinho’s options. But, a few games into the campaign, Mourinho has been forced to play Marouane Fellaini in the deep midfield role, suggesting that there is still need for another holding midfielder.

Arsenal, on the other hand, added Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira to their ranks. With Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey already available at Unai Emery’s disposal, Arsenal are likely to be just scouting the 19-year-old more than anything.

Juventus too, seem to be in the same boat as Arsenal. The Bianconeri are well stocked in midfield and could be tracking Maier in the ordinary course of business. Manchester United though, could emerge as a potent suitor for the young midfielder.

To shed some light on the player’s achievements so far, Maier is a Bundesliga champion, albeit at the Under-19 level, while also representing Germany up to the Under-21s. Maier already has a personal sponsor in Nike and is contracted to Hertha Berlin till the summer of 2022.

A regular for Hertha Berlin, who have started the season strongly and are second on the Bundesliga table for now; Maier is unlikely to exchange it for a potential squad role at Old Trafford, should Manchester United even come calling for the 19-year-old.

Still, the interest that his performances have been able to draw will only be a positive for Arne Maier and his camp. The youngster though, is likely to stick to Hertha Berlin for now.
