Chelsea are reportedly interested in Aleksandar Mitrovic, with Maurizio Sarri setting sights on a potential January move for the Fulham striker.

According to Mirror, Aleksandar Mitrovic is attracting the attention of a host of clubs after his thunderous start to the 2018-19 Premier League campaign with Fulham. Chelsea are among a number of clubs that are keeping a keen eye on the Serbian’s league exploits.

Aleksandar Mitrovic was seemingly frozen out at Newcastle before accepting a January loan move to Fulham down in the Championship. The striker scored 12 goals in 17 league appearances as Fulham achieved promotion to the top flight.

Fulham chose to make Mitrovic a permanent part of their squad. And the Serbian has responded brilliantly, with 4 goals in the first 5 Premier League games this season. His thunderous start to the 2018-19 campaign has brought forth a lot of interest, with Chelsea one of the clubs interested in the 23-year-old.

Maurizio Sarri decided against reinforcing the Chelsea frontline and hand Alvaro Morata a chance to impress. But, five games into the season, Morata has been displaced by Olivier Giroud, who started in their 3-0 win over Cardiff City.

With Maurizio Sarri not yet confident in Morata and Giroud already 32, Chelsea do not have any viable long-term goalscoring option right now within their squad.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s form is not just a new wave. The Serbian dazzled for Anderlecht during his teenage years and was labelled as one of the strikers to watch a few years back. The player also proved himself during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with able performances for Serbia.

Chelsea also do not have enough depth in the forward position, especially after letting Michy Batshuayi leave on a season-long loan to Valencia.

Fulham on the other hand, will not have any intention of listening to offers for the 23-year-old. The Cottagers have already issued proverbial statements, with the signing of Jean Michel Seri, who was a target for Chelsea and Arsenal.

They also managed to retain Ryan Sessegnon despite interest in the youngster from Tottenham, Manchester United and other top clubs. Fulham have cash to burn and are intent on using it to match the big clubs on the transfer market.

Expect Slavisa Jokanovic to do all he can to retain Aleksandar Mitrovic, who finally seems to be coming into his own in the Premier League, albeit after earning a move away from Newcastle. Chelsea though, wait in the wings.
