Marcos Alonso could yet be on his way out of Chelsea, with the Spaniard reportedly on the radar of Real Madrid and their local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Spanish publication AS and other Spanish media outlets are reporting of a potential battle in the transfer market brewing between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has emerged as a potential target for both the Madrid giants.

Marcos Alonso never managed to get a look-in at Santiago Bernabeu. The player had a tryst with Premier League football after leaving Real Madrid. But, it is at Fiorentina where built a name for himself before being signed by Chelsea in what was a deadline-day last-resort sort of move, the success of which was under doubt from the start.

Alonso though, has not only managed to do an able job for Chelsea but has also evolved into one of the most prolific defenders in the Premier League. Add to that the Spaniard’s penchant to always come up with the goods whenever Chelsea are in search of goals and Alonso is nothing short of a superstar right now.

The superstar though, could be on his way out of Chelsea, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid both showing interest.

Atletico Madrid’s interest stems from a possible transfer for Filipe Luis, who has emerged as a target for PSG. According to the report, Los Rojiblancos were planning an attempt for 2019 summer for Marcos Alonso. But, should Luis leave for PSG in the current transfer window, Atletico will likely move for the Spaniard.

Real Madrid have already been established as a suitor for Marcos Alonso. The European champions were interested in the Spaniard from the beginning of the summer transfer window. But, with Theo Hernandez moving to Real Sociedad on a season-long loan, Real are strapped for options on the left, with Marcelo the only recognised left-back.

Alonso is a former Real Madrid star, having emanated from their academy, which could be an advantage should they come knocking in. Another factor that might tempt Real into moving for Alonso is his ability to act as a cover in central defence as well.

Maurizio Sarri though, will not allow Alonso to leave, with Chelsea unable to sign a replacement till January. The Italian has opted to select Alonso as a starter on the left of his four-man defence and the Spanish defender has obliged with a couple of dominating displays.

The report loses a bit of credibility when a fee of €30 million is mentioned. In the current transfer market condition, Alonso will likely command a much greater fee. In fact, in order to persuade Chelsea to give up Alonso in the current transfer window itself, Real and Atletico might have to go near the Virgil van Dijk fee mark.

Real and Atletico might be interested in Marcos Alonso. But, any move will have to wait until January, if not the summer of 2019.
